NEWTOWN – Voters Tuesday approved a $111.7 million budget for next year that increases spending for raises, road repair and information technology.

The budget also carries a tax rate decrease of 0.7 percent.

“It is a good budget,” said Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra as the polls closed and the results were read at the Newtown Middle School. “We are very pleased.”

The budget, which goes into effect on July 1, carries a mill rate of 33.07. A mill rate represents $1 in taxes for every $1,000 in tax value.

A taxpayer with a median home assessment of $234,000 would pay $7,738 next year.
