The polling site at Hill & Plain Elementary School Tuesday had the highest turnout by 8 a.m. with some 24 voters casting ballots
NEW MILFORD — Voters were turning out at the polls in low numbers Tuesday morning to decide on New Milford’s $99.29 million proposed budget for 2015-15.
By 8 a.m., the polls had been open for two hours with just some 62 voters casting ballots at four of the town’s five voting sites.
Budget referendums historically have low voter turnout in New Milford and this year’s budget season was particularly quite with no contentious interaction between the town and education officials.
The polls remain open until 8 p.m. tonight. Votes cast their vote for the $38.1 million municipal and $61.2 million education budget as separate questions on the ballot.
Polling sites are: Northville Elementary School; John Pettibone School; Hill & Plain School; The Catherine Lillis Building on East Street; and the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department.
