DANBURY — An officer patrolling White Street early Monday morning found an intoxicated driver stopped at a green light with his eyes closed, police said.
The mini van was on the westbound lane, near the corner of Balmforth Avenue, at about 3:30 a.m. when the officer saw the man “slumped over in the driver’s seat,” according to the report.
Police said the car was running and the gear shift was still in drive.
After he woke up, the suspect was given field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.
Luis Zhagnay, 44, of Spring Street, Danbury, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving without a license and failure to obey control signal.
He was initially held on a $2,500 bond, but was later released on a promise to appear in court June 1.
