DANBURY – Two city residents are facing shoplifting charges after they were caught on surveillance camera stealing items from Walmart, 67 Newtown Road, police said.

When police arrived at the store at about 5 p.m. Monday, security personnel had the two suspects in custody. They told police they saw the women select a number of products from the health and beauty department and hide them in their purses, according to the report.

The suspects were then seen leaving the store without paying for the items, police said.

Janeth Celestina Antuash-Chiriap, 31, of Roger Avenue, and Transito Balvina Calle-Espinoza, 45, of Davis St., were charged with nine counts each of sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Antuash-Chiriap posted $500 bond and Calle-Espinoza was released on a promise to appear in court.

Their arraignment is scheduled for May 26.
