Redding Historical Society is hoping to establish an Independence Day celebration but it needs some help.
At least seven acoustic or folk acts are already lined up to play music from noon to 9 p.m. on July 4 at the barn on Umpawaug Road. The society is still looking for food vendors, as well as monetary donations so it can provide a fireworks show.
Joe Bonomo, the society’s president, said he hopes to raise $5,800.
The request originally went to the Board of Selectmen, but because of short notice and an already tight budget, it was decided the event should be funded by donations this year.
Bonomo said he hopes the event will be offered for at least three years and provide something for the town to build on to commemorate its 250th anniversary in 2017.
The event will also be a fundraiser for the historical society.
To donate, please make checks payable to the Redding Historical Society and mark them for the Fourth of July celebration. They can be mailed to the historical society at P.O. Box 1023 Redding Center, CT 06875.
