NEW MILFORD — Officer Michelle Yiznitsky, 23, was sworn in Tuesday at Roger Sherman Town Hall in New Milford as the newest member of the New Milford Police Department.

Yiznitsky graduated Monday with the 24th Class of the Milford Police Academy and holds a bachelor of science in Criminal Justice from Central Connecticut State University. She is currently an E-4 Specialist in the Army National Guard.

Yiznitsky grew up in Enfield. She said she “just found this path” to being a police officer on her own. She became interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement in high school.

Police Chief Shawn Boyne spoke at the swearing in ceremony telling Yiznitsky, “If you do this job properly, then there is nothing more noble you can do with your life,” a quote of Bill Westfall.

Yiznitsky’s parents, Judy and Ed Yiznitsky, were present for the ceremony.

The New Milford Police Department now has six women on the force: one detective; two sergeants; and three patrol officers.
