DANBURY – Two Hartford women were arrested last week after they were caught using a shoplifting device to steal merchandise at Danbury Fair mall, police said.
The pair was seen at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday removing sensor tags from several items at different stores, placing them in bags and leaving without paying for the products, according to the report.
Nashana McHaney, 21, and Destinymarie Santiago, 22, were taken into custody by mall security personnel until police arrived.
They were charged with possession of a shoplifting device, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
Santiago was also charged with risk of injury to a minor because she had a child with her during the incident, police said. The child was released to another adult.
McHaney was also charged with interfering with an officer after she gave police a different name, according to the report. She posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
