Ridgefield resident Ellen Mooney Hancock received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Award from The College of New Rochelle at its commencement on May 19 at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
Hancock, who earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from The College of New Rochelle, is a nationally recognized technology leader for companies such as IBM, where she worked for 29 years.
Hancock, who also has a master’s degree in mathematics from Fordham, became the first female Senior Vice President of IBM in 1992 and oversaw 15,000 employees in the network hardware and software divisions. She went on to work for National Semiconductor, Exodus Communications and Apple in high-ranking executive positions, and was once fifth in Fortune magazine’s list of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business.”
Hancock remains on the Board of Directors at Colgate Palmolive and Aetna and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Marist College.
