NEWTOWN — The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation is hosting this weekend its second annual “Butterfly Party,” a community event honoring one of the first-graders lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The party will feature live music, a birds of prey demonstration, a butterfly garden, face painting, balloon animals, food trucks, and a $50,000 grant check presentation for the development of the sanctuary.

Months after the December 2014 tragedy in Newtown, the parents of Catherine Violet Hubbard decided they would create a state-of-the-art shelter for animals to foster their daughter’s dream of helping animals. The six-year-old wanted to become an animal care taker.

The free event will take place at the Fairfield Hills Campus, 4 Primrose St., from 12 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

For more information about the sanctuary, visit the foundation’s website.
