The federal Environmental Protection Agency is proposing regulations to make new wood stoves, wood furnaces and wood boilers burn more cleanly.
The regulations would not apply to any existing stoves. It would only apply to stoves and furnaces built after 2015 and would be phased in over five years.
The EPA’s goal is to create a generation of wood burning heaters that would be 80 percent cleaner than existing stoves and furnaces.
Here’s an article in TheWashington Post about the proposed changes: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/epa-moves-to-regulate-new-wood-stoves/2014/01/03/b08cb232-7484-11e3-8b3f-b1666705ca3b_story.html
