U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy released his latest video today in his Connecticut in the Capital series. The video focuses on the contributions of former New Milford resident Roger Sherman, an original signer to both the Deceleration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Murphy shows Sherman’s statue located in the “crypt” of the U.S. Capitol building, that was donated to the country by the state of Connecticut along with a statue of former state governor Jonathan Trumbull.
Sherman, Murphy notes, was the author of the Connecticut Compromise during the Constitutional Convention of 1787. The compromise resulted in every state getting proportional representation in the U.S House of Representatives and equal representation in the U.S. Senate.
