DANBURY — Mayor Mark Boughton outlined his issues with gun control legislation passed in the state last year in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings and pointed  out an imbalance in the legislation’s focus.

“It really was 90 percent weighted toward gun control and really about 10 percent weighted toward the things that really matter,” he said, referring to school security and mental health treatment.

He also pointed out the need for improved communications between social service agencies that can identify and treat the mentally ill as well as police departments who should be notified of persons who may be dangerous.

“I’m willing to spend money to have a mental health system that can identify someone like the person that perpetrated the tragedy at Sandy Hook,” he said.
