City resident Geraldo DaSilva, 27, was arrested by local police Wednesday and is facing a number of charges including assault for allegedly injuring a child in his care.

Police said a local daycare center contacted the state Department of Children and Families on Monday after a student told a teacher that DaSilva, who is not affiliated with the daycare center,  had hit her with an object causing injuries to her legs.

Officials with the DCF contacted local police who issued an arrest warrant for DaSilva, who was taken into custody by detectives with the police department’s special victims unit.

DaSilva was charged with two counts each of third degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.  He was released on a $50,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned on the charges today in Danbury Superior Court.

On 01/27/2014, a local daycare contacted the Department of Children and Families regarding the suspected abuse of a child in their care.  The child reported to her teacher that, Geraldo DaSilva, a person entrusted to care for her when she is not in daycare had hit her with an object causing injuries to her legs.  DCF contacted the Danbury Police Department and a joint investigation was conducted into the allegation of abuse.
