Former Danbury High football star “Speedy” James Harrington is a freshman running back on the Post University sprint football team this season, and after leading the Eagles to a season-opening, 21-10 victory over Cornell last week, Harrington was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League’s Player of the Week.
Harrington set the school’s single-game record with 156 rushing yards in the win and scored two touchdowns.
On Friday, Post will visit defending CSFL-champion Army in West Point, N.Y.
So, what exactly is sprint football, you ask?
Sprint football is exactly the same a regular college football, with one major exception: all the players must weigh 172 pounds or less. The CSFL has been around since before World War II and currently features seven teams: Army, Cornell, Mansfield, Navy, Pennsylvania, Post and Princeton. Check out the league’s website at SprintFootball.com.
During his senior season at Danbury High in 2011, Harrington rushed for 1,224 yards and 21 touchdowns and added 250 receiving yards and one TD catch.
