NORTH SALEM, N.Y. — State police arrested a Bronx man after a pursuit through three towns at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour ended with a crash on Route 22 Saturday morning.
Anthony Powell, 35, was found to have more than 20 suspensions on his license after he plowed into a cement pillar shortly after 11:30 a.m., police said. Powell faces charges of reckless endangerment and aggravated unlicensed operation, in addition to numerous vehicle and traffic violations for the chase that began on Interstate 684 in Bedford about 11:30 a.m., went through Lewisboro and ended in North Salem.
State police said a trooper from the Somers barracks initially tried to stop Powell after clocking his white Infiniti SUV traveling at 89 miles per hour north on Interstate 684. Powell refused to stop and accelerated, driving erratically through all lanes of travel an onto the shoulder of the center median in an attempt to elude police.
Powell got off the highway in Golden’s Bridge, where Lewisboro police picked up the pursuit, police said.
He was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail on $2500 cash bail.
