Candlewood carp

In bad year, the Eurasian watermilfoil in Candlewood Lake can foul everything for swimmers and boats. The mats of thick aquatic weeds aren’t particularly pretty to look at either.

The Candlewood Lake Authority wants to use a biological control to reduce watermilfoil – sterile carp, which would eat the weeds without breeding and populating the lake with a new species.

The leaders of the five towns around the lake would have to sign onto the proposal to stock the lake with carp. That’s what I’ll be writing about in the coming week.
