The Danbury Library, 170 Main St. in Danbury, is celebrating Women’s History Month with a film showing, panel discussion and display of library materials featuring female singers, musicians, writers, and more.
FILM: The Makers/PBS documentary film “Makers: Women Who Make America” will be shown Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. The film celebrates the accomplishments of women over the past 50 years and features trail blazers such as Gloria Steinem, Eleanor Holmes Norton and Linda Alvarado. PANEL DISCUSSION: The discussion, “Standing on the Shoulders of Other Women,” including information about women from the Danbury community who were first in their fields, stories of Ridgefield resident Alice Paul who in 1913 led over 5,000 women in a march in Washington to draw Congress’ attention to women’s suffrage, information about other local women who fought for equal rights and more, will be held at the library on Monday, March 24, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. This discussion is being organized in partnership with the Women’s Center and Western Connecticut State University.
