Spring equinox

At 12:57 EDT Thursday, the sun will officially cross the equator and spring will begin – unless you live in the southern hemisphere, which means it’s the first day of autumn.

The sun isn’t  moving. The earth is, as it orbits around the sun. Because of the tilt of the earth’s axis, we get more direct sunlight from now until the first day of summer on June 21.. As hard as it is to believe, things should start warming up.

Officially on the equinox, we get 12 hours of daylight, 12 hours of dark.  In Danbury, the day we were closest to a pure split was Monday, when there was only a minute more day than night. On Thursday, that will grow to  seven more daylight  minutes.  Sunrise in Danbury will be at  6:58am
and sunset, at  7:05pm
