The Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials said today that it opposes any reduction in tree-trimming work along area roads.
Writing to the state’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, HVCEO said that after the serious storms of 2011 and 2012, the state ordered the state’s two public utilities – Connecticut Light & Power Co and United Illuminating – to do more tree trimming to lessen the number of power outages.
But after people have complained about the utilities’ work PURA ordered them this month to stop trimming aggressively, including taking down whole trees.
The HVCEO letters said however, that area town leaders don’t support that move.
“CL&P’s enhanced tree-trimming program has been successful in this area,” the letter said. “and as chief elected officials, we have not received complaints from the public concerning their trimming.”
