First Selectman Bill Tinsley announced this week the hiring of Fern Smenyak, a long-time Brookfield resident, to serve as the town’s new human resources director.
Smenyak started her duties this week. She comes to Brookfield Town Hall from Home Depot where she managed human resources and associate support and development since 2004.
Prior to beginning her work in the human resources field, Smenyak worked for 15 years as a paralegal. She completed a Bachelor’s of Arts course of study from New Jersey State University.
Smenyak has been active in local civic life, serving as the president of the Brookfield Baseball Association for 20 years and today remains the leader of the Brookfield Youth Basketball program. Her three sons are all members of Brookfield’s 13-year club, attending Brookfield schools from kindergarten through high school graduation.
“In welcoming Fern, we also bid a kind and fond farewell to Vincent Carbone,” Tinsley said in a news release. “Vince has served the town with distinction in an interim role since October. He has agreed to help us in a transition while Fern acclimates to the many in-process activities. I anticipate that Vince will be here until April 11. When he does depart, it will be with my sincere thanks and appreciation for the significant contribution he made while here. I encourage everyone to join me in extending our best wishes to him.”
And Tinsley invites all to stop in and at least wave hello to Smenyak.
