Brookfield fire Saturday no injuries

A Brookfield family was displaced early Saturday morning by heavy smoke damage to their two-story Colonial home on Meadow View Drive.

The house is listed on Vision Appraisal as being owned by John and Ellen Melville.

Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire call that came in at approximately 3:30 a.m. to find the garage area of the structure heavily involved in flames, according to Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Ellis.

The fire was contained to the two-car garage and one room above the garage, Ellis said. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the house, however, Ellis said.

The fire was knocked down by approximately 4:30 a.m. with fire departments remaining on the scene putting out hot spots that reignited, Ellis said.

Stony Hill Fire Department responded as rapid intervention. Hawleyville, Bridgewater and New Milford fire departments also responded. The fire is under investigation by the fire marshal.
