WATERBURY – A drug dealer died after he fell from a fleeing pickup truck during a drug transaction in Waterbury Saturday afternoon, police said.

Carl Brown, 35, of Waterbury, died of head injuries about half an hour after he was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital.

Police said Steven Vlash, 22, of New Milford, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado with passenger Nicholas Henry, 23, of Bethel, when the pair stopped to buy crack cocaine from Brown on Grove Street.

The suspects then attempted to flee without paying, but Brown clung to the truck and held on for about half a mile before falling on Linden Street, where he suffered severe head injuries, Waterbury Deputy Chief Christopher Corbett said.

Police located the suspects at Vlash’s home in New Milford around 7 p.m.

DANBURY – A Danbury man was arrested Monday after police said he kicked a door open at a multi-family home on Griffing Avenue.

Police were called to the home around 4 p.m. for a noise complaint. The caller told police that the suspect, Mathews Oliveira Dossantos, was kicking and banging on the door.

When police arrived, they saw the front door had been damaged.

Dossantos, 22, told officers that he was unable to get into the home because he did not have his key to the back door and was never given a key to the front door, according to the report. He said he tried to contact other tenants to let him in, but no one came to the door so he kicked the front door to force it open, police said.

After speaking to the landlord, police charged Dossantos with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

He was held in lieu of $1,000 bond.

Dossantos is also facing a felony charge for carrying a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor charges for threatening and disorderly conduct, according to the state Department of Justice. He’s scheduled to appear in court April 23.

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 10:29 A.M.

The revised proposal on the new Bethel police station is $400,000 cheaper than the plan voters rejected in the December referendum, Police Chief Jeffrey Finch said.

“Even though it was defeated in the last vote, there is still a belief that the building is necessary,” he said. “We’re hoping to put it out for a referendum in the near future.”

The Police Commission announced Tuesday that it will host a special meeting to discuss details on the new $13.7 million proposal Thursday night.

Finch said the footprint and location of the proposed facility remain the same. The $14.1 million plan called for a 25,000-square-foot facility — nearly three times the size of the current building — to be built on part of an 8-acre parcel adjacent to Bethel High School at Judd Avenue and Whittlesy Drive.

The chief said the cuts are “meaningful” and that the final price tag would likely be even lower.

“This is not the final price,” he said. “This is just an estimate. When they put out bids, it could be less… We’re trying to be prepared for what we think it could cost at its maximum expense.”

ORIGINAL POST: WEDNESDAY 9:33 A.M.

BETHEL – The Bethel Police Commission will be hosting a public information session this week regarding the proposed police station.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at town hall.

The agenda, which was posted Tuesday, has only one item: “Discussion concerning the potential construction of a new police station.”

However, Town Clerk Lisa Bergh said public comments will be allowed.

Town officials have been considering alternatives to the plan since residents rejected a $14.1 million proposal in December.
