Waiting game for Bethel marijuana dispensary’s zoning

Despite a lengthy meeting to resolve the issue Tuesday night, the zoning struggles continue for a medical marijuana dispensary headed to Garella Road in Bethel.

After over three hours of testimony and public comments regarding the zoning approval granted to D&B Wellness, Inc. for its medical marijuana dispensary at 4 Garella Road, the Bethel Zoning Board of Appeals continued the matter to their next meeting on July 15.

But as far as the company and the state Department of Consumer Protection are concerned, preparations will continue as normal until a decision from the board orders otherwise.

“We’re going forward,” said Angela D’Amico, co-founder of D&B with Karen Barski, both of Trumbull. “We’ll be set to go as soon as we get everything to move forward. …We were planning an opening in late August, early September so this doesn’t create a  problem for us.”

Commissioner William Rubenstein said the Department of Consumer Protection is taking roughly the same tack with the beleaguered dispensary, the last of the state’s six initial licensees.

“We’re going to move our program forward whether it’s with six dispensaries or five dispensaries in the near term but right now we’ll let that process work its way out and react when there’s something to react to,” Rubenstein said. “Right now they’re a licensee and they’re expected to be up and running (by mid-September).”
