Commission delays demolition work

The Ridgefield Planning and Zoning Commission agreed Tuesday to delay any approval of plans for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association to build its hew headquarters on Governor Street.
At issues is whether a 19th century home on the lot  that once belonged to former Connecticut governor Phineas Lounsbury should be preserved or demolished to make way for the new visiting nurse offices.
The building has been moved and remodeled over the years.
Wes Haynes of the Connecticut Trust For Historic Preservation said in a letter that while the house “has no legal status as a historic resource, it does possess sufficient historical significance and architectural integrity to mitigate its loss. ‘‘
The commission agreed to  wait two weeks to see if there is any chance the house might
