A 14-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Tuesday evening after being hit by a pick-up truck while riding his bike on Harrison Street.
Witnesses said the boy appeared to be responsive and was bleeding from the neck and mouth.
The driver of the pick-up who hit the boy said he was driving on Coal Pit Hill Road around 7:45 p.m. when he saw the boy speeding down Harrison Street.
He said he swung his truck into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the boy head on. The boy struck the side of his truck.
“I knew he wasn’t going to stop,” said the driver, who refused to be identified.
Police are investigating the accident.
