DANBURY — A woman and her 3-year-old son were struck by a car Wednesday night as they were crossing Main Street in a crosswalk, according to emergency officials at the scene.

The accident occurred at about 6 p.m. in a cross walk in front of the Laurel Gardens housing complex at 385 Main St. Emergency officials said both the mother and the young boy were transported to the emergency room at Danbury Hospital shortly after the incident.

While officials declined to comment on the condition of the two pedestrians, scanner communications indicted that both had traumatic injuries.

A woman who was in the late model Oldsmobile that officials say allegedly hit the two pedestrians was also transported to the hospital. The woman, who was not identified, was alert and conscious when placed on a stretcher at the scene.

Damage was apparent to front passenger side of the car as well as its windshield. Whether the damage was from the accident wasn’t immediately known.

Both southern lanes of Main Street were shut down for more than a half hour as a result of the incident and several bystanders were distraught after learning about the injured pedestrians.

Police said the incident remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available late Wednesday.
