Officials with Naugatuck Valley Community College announced Wednesday their plans to triple the size of the organization’s facility in downtown Danbury.
School president Daisy Cocco De Filippis released a statement Wednesday announcing their intentions to lease a building owned by Joseph DaSilva Jr. at the corner of Main and West streets that includes more than 20,000 square feet.
De Filippis said in the statement that the expansion will allow a substantial increase in both enrollment and the number and type of classes offered.
Occupancy is expected by the summer of 2015 with classes set to start in the new space by the fall of next year.
“We are excited to see this commitment from NVCC in City Center,” Mayor Mark Boughton said Wednesday about the announcement. “NVCC will be more than doubling its space, and reusing a key building on Main Street. This is great news and great momentum for Main Street.”
