‘Suspicious’ Newtown fire under investigation

NEWTOWN — Authorities are investigating a “suspicious” structure fire on Taunton Lake Road Monday night, Newtown Fire Marshal Bill Halstead said.

Firefighters discovered the fire around 10 p.m. after reports of smoke coming out of a two-story house. Halstead said there was fire in multiple locations but it was “knocked down really fast.”

The house was unoccupied as it appears to be under construction, he said.

The state fire marshal’s office and the Newtown Police Department are assisting Halstead in the investigation.
