Jane Miller has been expelled from the Brookfield Republican Party for “lack of good-faith party affiliation,” her husband Larry told the News-Times Tuesday morning, citing a letter their attorney received Monday afternoon. Larry Miller will remain in the party.

The decisions came in an email from the attorney of Republican Registrar of Voters Tom Dunkerton, Ward Mazzucco. Dunkerton did not immediately respond to a phone call Tuesday morning.

A hearing was held April 9 at Brookfield Town Hall for Jane and Larry Miller to see if they should remain in the local GOP under a little-used state statute that allows registrars to expunge members of the party for, among other things, donating to an opposing political party — as both Larry and Jane did, according to documents provided by Dunkerton — or running as a candidate for an opposing party, which Dunkerton alleged Jane did as a Democrat in the 2013 Board of Finance election.

Dunkerton and Matt Grimes, the chairman of the Republican Town Committee, adjudicated the hearing and decided the case. Grimes did not immediately respond to a phone call Tuesday morning.
