DANBURY — A driver found blocking an intersection Wednesday night turned out to be high on heroin, police said.

Miguel Espada, 54, or Perry Drive, New Milford, stopped his car in the middle of the road between Garfield and Deer Hill avenues at about 9:30 p.m., according to the report.

When officers questioned him, he said he stopped there because he was pulling a prank on some landscapers, police said. Officers then realized Espada was not making any sense and appeared to be under the influence, according to police.

After searching the vehicle, police said they found a needle and two wax-paper folds containing a white powder. The substance tested positive for heroin and Espada failed the field sobriety tests, police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, illegal possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

He was held on $25,000 bond and was transported to court Thursday morning.
