More than 100 people in Danbury were without power this weekend after a driver struck a pole and left the scene.

Benjamin Silva, 25, of Danbury, hit an AT & T pole on Myrtle Ave. at the Abbott Ave. intersection around 10:45 p.m. Saturday before driving away. Officers arrived and found the pole with “extensive damage,” said Lt. Christian Carroccio, of the Danbury Police.

Officers were able to find Silva after a neighbor who saw the accident showed them where the car went after hitting the pole.

“Silva admitted to officers that he struck the pole and got nervous so he took off,” Carroccio said.

Silva was charged with failure to drive right and evading responsibility. He was released on a $500 bond.

Eversource reported 106 customers without power because of this.

Power was restored for all but eight customers two hours later. Power wasn’t fully restored until 7:20 a.m. Sunday for the remaining customers while the pole and equipment was replaced, said Mitch Gross with Eversource.
