Wednesday is the last day to register for the 15th John Marsicano Memorial Candlewood Lake Clean up on Saturday.
The event, which usually draws between 150 and 200 volunteers, began 17 years ago. All volunteers must register to ensure there’s enough room on the cleanup boats. Each participant will receive an assigned departure and must be there by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
If there is rain, the event will be pushed to Sunday. Announcements about the event will be emailed to participants, as well as posted on www.candlewoodlakeauthority.org and broadcast on 95.1 FM.
Throughout the morning, volunteers will remove trash and debris from the water and shoreline of uninhabited areas. At noon, the boats will sail to New Fairfield Park where participants will deposit the trash in a dumpster and have a cookout.
All of the participants will be brought back to their original departure points.
Volunteers are asked to wear proper, sturdy footwear to collect debris. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided.
