A federal grand jury has indicted former Newtown Police Sgt. Steven Santucci and seven other men accused of distributing steroid and prescription drugs.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut said last week that Santucci has been receiving shipments of steroids and related materials from China since 2011 and has been manufacturing and distributing large quantities of steroids, oxycodone, Xanax and counterfeit Cialis.
Seven of the defendants are scheduled to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Thursday in federal court in Hartford. Alex Kenyhercz, who authorities have described as one of Santucci’s two key redistributors, is scheduled to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Friday
Also charged was a Newtown civilian dispatcher, Jason Chickos.
The grand jury charged Santucci with six counts of possession and distribution of anabolic steroids and one count each of conspiracy to distribute and to possess anabolic steroids with intent to sell and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.
Santucci, 38, of Waterbury, resigned May 1. He now faces up to 10 years in jail, authorities said.
The arrests took place between April 29 and 30 and were coordinated by the FBI, the DEA and Homeland Security Investigations.
