Danbury police have promoted Michael Sturdevant, a 20-year-old veteran of the department,  from sergeant to lieutenant.

Sturdevant serves as a commanding officer with the department’s S.W.A.T. team, is a certified field training officer and a member of the recruiting team.

He received the Exceptional Police Service Award three times,  the Rotary Club’s Officer of the Year Award in 2002, among citations and awards.

The City Council unanimously approved the promotion on May 5.

“I am confident he will continue to serve the department and community with the highest level of standards and expertise that we are accustomed to experiencing with him,” Mayor Mark Boughton said at that meeting.
