Runners and walkers are being sought for the Third Annual Little Britches 5K Run/Walk, which will be held on Sunday, June 7, in scenic Bridgewater. The only race in Bridgewater starts at the Bridgewater Pavilion, Sarah Sanford Road East, and winds through the picturesque back roads of town.
“We have had just about 200 runners and walkers our first and second years and would really love to see this event continue to grow,” says vice president Stuart Daly. “We hope people will come out and experience Bridgewater as they never have before, on foot.”
Registration may be done online ahead, or on site. Race day registration and check in begins at 8 a.m. with a start time of 9:30 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the not-for-profit Little Britches Therapeutic Riding program with sites in Roxbury and Woodbury.
Tracey Blackman, mother to one of the Little Britches riders said, “I credit this organization with helping my now 6 year old daughter learn to walk, as well as with building her confidence in her independence and her mobility. We have a team in her honor this year, and she’s excited to do some walking herself, too”. Blackman’s daughter has right sided hemiplegia and began riding when she was just 3.
The first 200 registrants will receive T-shirts and gift bags. Awards will be given for 1st overall male, 1st overall female, and six age divisions.
Founded in 1979 by the late Betty Lou McColgin and Sharon resident Peg Sweeney, Little Britches has provided equine assisted activities including therapeutic riding and driving to hundreds of children with disabilities.
Advance registration is $25; race-day registration is $30. Advance registration is available online at http://register.fasttracktiming.com
