BROOKFIELD – Town native Nick Quattrocchi is set to participate in the annual 545-mile San Francisco-to-Los Angeles bike ride to benefit AIDS patients May 31 through June 6.

The seven-day bike ride, known as AIDS/LifeCycle, is the largest annual single event fundraiser for AIDS. Funds will benefit the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

The center and the foundation will use the funds to reduce new HIV infections and giving more people access to medical care.

During the time it takes Quattrocchi and fellow riders to reach Los Angeles, more than 1,000 people in the United States will become infected with HIV.

“As an out-gay may living with HIV, I am committed to AIDS/LifeCycle because I want to do my part to see an end to HIV/AIDS,” Quattrocchi said in a prepared statement.

Quattrocchi, who has a fundraising goal of $15,000, already has $13,000 in pledges.
