The Danbury Whalers hockey team has packed up and left the Danbury Arena, and team CEO and Managing General Partner Herm Sorcher confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the team is not coming back.
Sorcher said the Federal Hockey League franchise is still a “member in good standing” with the FHL and his position as part-owner of the team hasn’t changed, although he said the team’s status is “inactive” because of a lease dispute with Eagle Ice Sports, owner of the Danbury Arena.
Sorcher also confirmed that he has taken the job of general manager for a new FHL team, which will call the Brewster Ice Arena home.
