RIDGEFIELD — Three schools were temporarily placed on “soft” lockdown Thursday morning while police investigated a report of a “suspicious male” possibly carrying a firearm near the center of town, authorities said.
Police received the report at about 9:20 a.m. when the man was in the area of West Mountain and Ramapoo roads.
Veterans Park Elementary School, Ridgefield Academy and St. Mary’s School were immediately placed on a lockdown, police said.
Officers did a thorough search of the area but were unable to find the individual. Police said officers spoke with “numerous people” in the area and no one reported seeing a person matching the description given by the caller.
The lockdown has been lifted, according to the report.
