NEW CANAAN — A 49-year-old Ridgefield man was arrested for second-degree breach of peace Sunday after he allegedly told a 20-year-old female employee of New Canaan’s Food Emporium, 280 Elm St., that he loved her and would crash his truck into the store if he didn’t get her phone number, Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.

Randolph Wood, of Danbury Road, Ridgefield returned a short while later as the woman was being picked up by a friend and blocked the woman’s friend’s car with his pickup truck for a short time and stared at the woman, Ogrinc said.

Wood also threatened to cut off his own leg if she did not give him the number, Ogrinc said.

“He made a number of disturbing comments,” Ogrinc said. “…He made her fearful.”

Another customer was able to identify the alleged perpetrator as Randolph Wood, and police were able to contact him later in the day to be interviewed, Ogrinc said.

Wood told police he knew why they had come to talk to him, and promised to stay away from the woman, Ogrinc said.

Wood was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Tuesday, June 9, according to Ogrinc.
