A trillion smells to smell

As the great Durante would say – the nose knows.

For many years, the common consensus was that humans could distringuish about 10,000 different scents.

That seems like a lot, but it’s a pitiful number compared to other mammals with very large noses out there.

Researchers decided to test that number. They know think it was off by 999,999,999, 990,000.  They think humans can distinguish a trillion different smells.

My nose is not very sensitive. I’d judge it at only 500 billion or so
